TWO Stretch Goals Unlocked!
almost 2 years ago – Tue, May 10, 2022 at 10:49:05 AM

We had an amazing weekend! You unlocked not one, but TWO stretch goals!

When I was initially planning out the components of Spirit Duels, I knew I wanted what was inside the box to go over and beyond not just quality, but content. Even in the early stages of designing the game and building this world, I knew I wanted there to be a lore and art book included in every copy of the game. Not an add-on. Not a Kickstarter Exclusive. But a standard, core component. Why? Because the world of Spirit Duels is just as important to me as anything else. I want you to be able to immerse yourself into this world, its regions, and most importantly, these Spirits.

However, at the last minute, I made a very tough decision that most of the things that were "auto-includes" for me (like the lore and art book - or thicker card stock) really needed to be stretch goals.  Doing so allowed me to bring our funding goal down as low as possible, increasing the odds of the campaign being a success.

This was a scary decision to make because it meant that some of these things that were very important to me may not end up being a reality. What if we didn't hit those goals? Well, I'm relieved to say that just two weeks into the campaign, you've smashed those goals!

Our first stretch goal was an upgrade to the card quality in the game. This may not seem like much, but it's actually a huge deal. The cards will now be thicker and feel of higher quality in your hands.

Up next was the lore and art book. Its official name is Spirit Tome: Avasol Vol. 1. Let's dissect that name real quick. First off, what is a Spirit Tome? Spirit Tomes act as bestiaries for Spirit Casters, detailing the habitats, behaviors, Classes, and more of each Spirit in a nation. The world of Spirit Duels is divided into different nations. Each nation has its own assortment of Spirits that are native to that nation. The base game of Spirit Duels covers a large portion of Spirits from the nation of Avasol. Spirit Tome: Avasol Vol. 1 will include entries for each of these Spirits. The remaining Spirits of Avasol are left to be discovered in a future expansion that will include Spirit Tome: Avasol Vol. 2. My ultimate dream is that we can continue releasing products for Spirit Duels that will explore new nations of this vast world.

That's all for today's update! Again, I can't thank you enough for your support. I'm so excited to dive into the world of Spirit Duels with you all.

Tomorrow, we've got a pretty big update coming as we kick off Phase II of the Community Designed Spirit Line! See you then!

Spirit Duels is 100% funded!
almost 2 years ago – Sun, May 08, 2022 at 11:30:31 PM

Spirit Duels is fully funded! It's honestly a bit surreal typing that out. This has been a three-year-long passion project of mine. All the late nights testing and iterating different Class Abilities. All the blank dice with symbols drawn on by a sharpie. All the countless visits to the printer to run off the latest prototype. It's all led to this moment! Most importantly, all of that would have been for nothing without your help. You funded this dream. You made Spirit Duels a reality. Now, this is a passion project we can share in creating.  "Thank you" just doesn't cut it!

Here are a few glances at those early days. Looking back, I wish I took more pictures of the process.

Now that the game is funded, we can focus on stretch goals! The first stretch goal unlocks at $16,000. Once reached, this will allow us to print the cards on a higher quality card stock (310gsm Black Core). The cards will be thicker and feel better in your hands if we can reach this goal. After that, we have the $17,000 goal that unlocks the lore and art book: Spirit Tome: Avasol Vol. 1. I'll go into more details about the book in a future update! And we have even more stretch goals after that!

Again, I am blown away by your support.

I'm still pinching myself: SPIRIT DUELS IS FULLY FUNDED!

Before I leave you today, I wanted to mention a few things we have coming up!

Huge Update: New Stretch Goal, Social Goal Unlocked, and Phase I Results!
almost 2 years ago – Thu, May 05, 2022 at 06:10:49 AM

We've got a lot of exciting stuff to cover today. First off, we are 89% funded! Wow. We had 28 days in total to reach our goal, and we've almost done it in a week! I am more confident than ever that we will see Spirit Duels become a reality. I am forever grateful for your support. At this point, I'd like to think that it's no longer a question of if we will fund, but how many stretch goals we will hit!

A New Stretch Goal Revealed

Speaking of stretch goals, we have a new one to reveal today! This is the $18k Radiant Stretch Goal! If we can hit $18,000, every Radiant Pledge will be gaining two new Kickstarter Exclusive Radiant Foil Spirit Lines: Tadgar and Pruni. And here they here:

Tadgar, Gilagar, and Gilagator were inspired by salamanders, so going with the black and yellow coloration found on the Yellow-Spotted Salamander was a perfect fit. As for the Pruni Line, our Lead Illustrator Robert Schilling thought a fall-inspired coloration would look great. And he was absolutely right! The teal and orangish pink really make the Pruni Line shine. For comparison, here they are next to their standard versions:

These Radiants are truly some of my favorites and I hope we see them unlocked! On that note...

Radiant Foil Tychomp Line Unlocked!

You did it! We needed to hit 5 of the 12 Social Goals and we've actually hit 6! Because of your support, every Basic Pledge or higher will receive the beautiful, Kickstarter Exclusive, Radiant Foil Tychomp Spirit Line! Let's go! I am so pumped we unlocked these because I personally want them in my own card pool!

Last but certainly not least, let's go over the Phase I voting results of our Community Designed Spirit Line!

Phase I: Voting Results and Phase II Details

It started out as a very close race between Toxic/Arcane and Electric/Ice, but in the last 24 hours, many votes came in pushing Toxic/Arcane as the clear winner! Here are the results:

  • [Winner] Toxic/Arcane: 24 Votes
  • Electric/Ice: 13 Votes
  • Fire/Water: 6 Votes
  • Earth/Fire: 1 Vote

We had 44 total votes! Thank you for voting and being involved in the process! If your vote didn't win, don't worry! Those Spirit will still be included in the final game, they just won't be designed by the community.

Now, I want to go over the details of Phase II and how it will work. Now that Phase I is over, Robert (Lead Illustrator) is working on three different concepts for this Toxic/Arcane Spirit Line. During Phase II, you will cast your vote on which of these concepts will be the final designs of the Spirit Line. Each concept will be unique and different from the others so that all backers will hopefully have a choice they love.

Phase II voting will begin on Tuesday, May 10! I hope to see you there!

80% Funded! | Last Call for Phase I voting!
almost 2 years ago – Mon, May 02, 2022 at 10:50:23 AM

80$ Funded! Almost There!

What a weekend! 31 Backers came in on Saturday alone! I continue to be blown away by your support.

We're also smashing the social goals! We are so close to unlocking those beautiful Radiant Foils for the Tychomp Line! If you didn't catch the news, I tweaked the goal one last time. Now, there are twelve different goals to hit. However, we only have to hit five of them to unlock the cards!

Here's each goal and the progress we've made so far:

New Add-On!

A lot goes into creating and fulfilling add-ons. My first and ultimate priority is to make the best game we can and have it delivered to your door as fast as possible. If I am not careful, add-ons can hinder this goal.  With that in mind, there are a couple of options for Add-Ons that I am considering that would be safe to add to the campaign. For now, I'd like to start by adding in the option for additional copies of the game!

You may now add additional copies of Spirit Duels to your pledge! Just head over to the campaign page and click the "Manage your pledge" button at the top!

Last Call to vote in Phase 1 of the Community Designed Spirit Line!

Did you know that we've launched a series of backer-exclusive polls where backers are voting on different options to help design a full Spirit Line? You have less than 24 hours to vote in the first poll that will decide the Classes of the Spirits! Head over to Update #2 to learn more and cast your vote!

Thank you again for your support!

54% in 48 Hours! | Community Designed Spirit Line: Phase I
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 28, 2022 at 09:08:59 AM

Okay, wow! We are over halfway funded in the first 48 hours! You did that! Thank you so much for your support. Let's keep crushing it!

We are also doing great on the Bonus Goal to unlock the Tychomp, Tynagma, and Magmaros Radiant Foils.  20/200 shares so far! Check out Update #1 for more info on that!

Community Designed Spirit Line: Phase I

As promised, today begins the process of creating our Community Designed Spirit Line! This is something I am very excited about! Over the course of the campaign, you and other backers will vote in backer-exclusive polls to decide the Classes, art, and names for an entire Spirit Line!

Phase I will cover the Classes for the Spirits.  Before we begin, it is important to note that every Spirit's Class(es) in the game has already been determined. I wanted there to be a perfectly even distribution of each Class across the game.  So, each has three Spirit Lines and each Class also appears two times as a Secondary Class.

For example, inside the Fire Class, there is the Tychomp Line, the Flarakeet Line, and a Fire/Water Spirit Line whose illustrations and names have not yet been decided. In addition to these three Spirit Lines, the Fire Class appears in two other Spirit Lines in the game: the Zuja Line (Arcane/Fire) and an Earth/Fire Spirit Line whose illustrations and names have not yet been decided.

As you can see, there are a handful of Spirit Lines whose Classes have been determined, but their illustrations and names have not. For Phase I, you will be voting on which of these Spirit Lines will be the Community Designed Spirit Line!

Before I give you the options, let me go over the rules:

  • Voting begins today, as soon as this update goes live!
  • To vote, simply comment below one of the Class combinations listed below.
  • You may only vote once.
  • Voting ends on Tuesday, May 3 at 12:00 pm EST.

Okay! So, here are the options to choose from (Primary/Secondary):

  • Fire/Water
  • Earth/Fire
  • Electric/Ice
  • Toxic/Arcane

Don't forget, you can only vote once! So, choose wisely!
